ডাকের সাজের কাহিনী- The story behind ‘Daaker Saaj’

 

As ‘Shola’ r Saaj became common place, the Bengali elite in those days introduced a new type of embellishment for the idols in their Pujas-primarily made from silver foil (rangta) and enhanced with silver sequins. As these materials were not readily available, they were imported from Germany to begin with.Since it had to be brought via mail or ‘daak’ – as it is called in Bengali, this type of embellishment for Goddess came to be called ‘daaker saaj’.
