When the puja organizers met on Wednesday to discuss the do’s and don’ts of this puja – an annual ritual three weeks prior to Durga Puja – there was a surprise waiting for them. Kolkata Police now wants to spruce up its traffic plan and thus is willing to add new puja venues in its own “must watch” puja guide. What’s more – the cops will ask puja committees to actively use its one stop portal Aasan – to receive permission to hold the pujas.

“This year onwards, the Puja committees can apply online for Puja permissions through the soon-to-be-launched web portal ‘AASAAN’. The portal will allow the committees to apply to all concerned agencies online and even pay all required fees online. Even the final permission will also be granted online. The site will be open for preview on September 12 onward and registration will commence from September 14,” said a senior Lalbazar official.
